The miracle of a perfect evening

Yesterday I began a three-day class about how our faces and bodies reflect our inner world. Fascinating stuff that is illuminating a lot of things that I already knew on some level but didn’t know how to express or respond to. Very cool and I’m really glad that I’m doing it.

Derek is also an amazing photographer. This one is titled "Inside A Grain Silo". You can see more of his work at www.dillpixels.ca.

During yesterday’s class, the instructor told us that stuff would keep coming up to be released and we should be sure to nurture ourselves – take a bath, drink water, do whatever we do to be kind to ourselves. I know exactly what that would mean if I were in my own home – long bath with candles burning, essential oils, maybe some quiet music. But this week I’m staying in a friend’s home so I don’t have all my own accoutrements with me. And it wouldn’t have mattered if I did, because to be honest, by the time we got back to her house, I had forgotten the instructions entirely.

Enter Jen’s husband Derek. As I notice more and more of the Amazing Men in my life, he definitely makes the list – funny, interesting, talented, extremely good-looking, and completely in love with his wife. And, best of all for me, he has welcomed me with open arms into his home. When I first got here, we discovered a shared love for Norah Jones and Diana Krall. Last night he came into the living room and said to me, “I’ve got a video of Norah Jones in concert, do you want to come watch it?” Seriously?!? How could I say no to an offer like that?!?

So for about an hour and a half, I let her music wash over me. It’s the first time I’ve ever watched her play, which added untold dimensions to an already sensual experience. It was a perfect evening spent in the company of wonderful friends. In the moment that it was happening, I was completely content. This morning I realized that the Universe had conspired to give me exactly what I needed, even though I had forgotten my instructions – to nurture and care for myself.

To Jen and Derek (and not to forget Evan!), thank you for opening your home and your hearts to me. I am so grateful. You are an amazing miracle in my world.
