The Miracle Challenge – day #4

Good morning everyone!

This morning I thought I’d do a run-down of our participants thus far.

We have 19 people who have made declarations!  And I’ve gotten emails from a couple more people who will be joining us, which puts us well over the 20 mark.  Just think – 20 people for 30 days – that’s SIX HUNDRED miracles!!!!!  Isn’t that mind-blowing?  :-)

Here are the issues that people have identified that they’re working with:

  • Finding the beauty in having a special needs child
  • Slowing down and being more mindful
  • Finding peace within an anxiety disorder
  • Recovering from heartbreak
  • Maintaining connections through transitions in both home and work
  • Opening heart to create new friendships
  • Opening heart to maintain new friendships
  • Releasing negative self-talk (three people)
  • Finding peace with finances (two people)
  • Appreciating life
  • Opening to a romantic relationship
  • Patience
  • Health
  • Body image
  • Releasing dark shadows and connecting to inner beauty
  • Simplifying life

WOW!  That’s an impressive list!

I’m particularly struck by a trio of declarations around creating and maintaining friendships.  It reminds me of times when I’ve felt so isolated in the midst of a crowd of people.  That can be the worst kind of loneliness.  If all of us who felt that kind of loneliness in the crowd raised our hands and said that’s how we’re feeling, I wonder what would happen?  We might just that the person next to us is feeling the same way…and they become our new best friend.

Amazing work everybody!  Keep up the momentum and be miraculous today.  :-)

Missed yesterday, trying to maintain a healthy life in both Massachusetts where I am working four days a week with my wonderful husband, and Littleton where I LIVE. I came up with an idea that will both keep me in touch with friends and stay creative. I am hosting a Friday night Altered Book Workshop where we will enjoy each others company, have some wine and create a fun work of art! The miracle I realized is that it doesn’t have to be hard, it can be easy and fun!!! Let me know if anyone is interested in participating!

As I’ve taken on more hours working at the newspaper, I haven’t been paying as much attention to my website clients as I should. It has started creating a lot of stress for me – feeling like I’m not being as responsive as I should be to clients and that I’m not making enough money at the newspaper to cover my responsibilities.

Today I had a conversation with my friend in which she helped me to talk it through and come up with a workable plan that should help reduce my stress, complete all of my commitments, and have more money.

It will involve me being more mindful of the time that I spend at the newspaper and more committed to generating new website work. The first is simply a matter of attention. The second makes me nervous. So right now I will trust that setting the intention is enough for today. The “how” will show up in its time. Yippee! :-)

Still not really seeing miracles each day as evidently as I’d like, but I’m very mindful of my intentions and my sense of worthiness, and perhaps the miracle is that I’m still here, doing this… posting each night even if I’m not knocked on my buns by a specific moment during my day. =)

Today I really enjoyed watching a sports game with my toddler. This is interesting to me because I was so relaxed and truly had fun, unlike when I watch sports in the presence of my spouse. Why is that? Well, two reasons – #1. I’m not a fan of yelling critically at the players of any sport. The anger and volume of that kind of viewing makes me really uncomfortable. And #2. (the interesting part for me), I wasn’t feeling ignored, or angry about more attention being paid to the game than to me. (jealous green monster!) So without pointing fingers at my spouse – whom I DO love truly, dearly and deeply. Rather than focus on CHANGING his way of enjoying a sports game…. I find myself examining my own issues with not just enjoying the activity for the sake of my own interest – when my husband is present. Again – why is that? Why do I silently battle the television for the attention of another person… rather than let it go and just watch for myself. How silly is it to become jealous and well… shall I nicely say “moody” because in my own head I’ve decided that the game is more important than I am to my husband? I am the one creating all of that conflict. Instead – I should find a way to better communicate my desire for attention in general and STOP shadow boxing for it in sulking or pouting and just enjoy activities IN THE PRESENT. How mature of me… when it’s all intellectual and not emotional. Some other miracle in the future . . . mastering my knee jerk emotions to Do what I Say.

600 miracles is amazing! My miracle for today is how life has reminded me that one does not need to spend money to have a great time. My family and I had a wonderful evening last night sitting around their house talking for an hour and half by candle light because the power was knocked out by the storms. But it was wonderful just sitting around eating chili dogs with no distractions like computers or TVs that we normally have. And today my dear husband and I just spent the day relaxing and enjoying each other’s company without feeling the need to go out for any reason. So we had a terrific time and avoiding going out spending money for entertainment. It is amazing how quickly we can forget to give thanks and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
