Joining a community

I’ve been doing this journaling thing for almost a year now (can you believe it?!?  Today is the start of the twelfth month!)  Despite regularly telling myself that I should start engaging with other bloggers, I haven’t done it.  The only blog I’ve been reading regularly is Momma Sunshine‘s.

Frankly, I feel awkward about the whole social networking thing.  I’m fine here in my own little corner of the world – I almost always have something to talk about and I know that there are a group of people out there who are interested to hear what I have to say. But put me outside on a street corner where everyone is talking and I’m no longer sure.

From the blog www.thedavidwilsonproject.com - click the picture to see his blog, too!

Consequently… even though I blog, I have held myself apart from joining the blogging community.  Which is how I used to participate in my walking-around community – I wanted to be a part of it, but didn’t know how, so I didn’t try.  I grew up and learned some lessons about being social and now I do okay.  Surely I can do the same thing online, right?

Today through a twisty route of clicking links, I ended up at a blog that I really, really like – City Girl.  Not only do I like the content, I LOVE how it looks.

After spending quite a while reading at her blog, I followed links to some of her favorite blogs and ended up at another blog that I’m LOVING – Newlyweds On A Budget (the specific post I linked to is absolutely brilliant!)

So now I’ve identified two bloggers whose work I’m really enjoying.  Next step – let them know that I like their work (because it’s so much better to say something nice to someone’s face than to wait until they’ve left the room and say it to other people…)  :-)

Today’s miracle – reminding myself that I can make some small steps.  I don’t have to eat the entire elephant today.  I can just choose a small portion of the upper thigh and leave the rest for another day.  Success takes time and diligence.  I can do that.

Thanks Momma! :-) I love your blog, ESPECIALLY now that I’m in a long distance relationship. I’m looking forward to making more bloggy friends. How did you go about reaching out those first few times?
