A little more than a year ago, I had an epiphany about men – namely that I am surrounded by AMAZING men whom I love and admire. They give me hope that there is a great and lasting love with someone amazing in my future.
This weekend I had a lot of time to think. I found myself reviewing the stories that I’ve heard from my male partners about the women they’ve been involved with in the past. I’ve heard stories about women who can’t stand to be touched in the middle of the night (I’ve heard this more than once); women who have mental dysfunctions but choose not to take their medication (I’ve heard this one more than once as well); and women who are in such pain that no matter what the man does, she punishes him for being wrong. And more. So many sad stories of people who are in so much pain.
Which got me thinking – I’ve got my issues, but I’ve done so much work over the last six years. I hardly even recognize the girl I was before as the same person that I am now.
That little voice in my head that tells me I’m wretched and unlovable still exists, but she isn’t the only voice in the choir anymore. There is another voice that had gotten quiet over the last few months, but is starting to gather steam again.
She is the voice of the extraordinary woman inside me.
She is – no, I am – willing to be loved.
I am willing to be loving.
I am willing to express that love in every way that I know how.
I am willing to be affectionate and playful and silly.
I am willing to be smart and serious.
I am willing to be a team player.
I am willing to be a teacher.
I am willing to be vulnerable.
I am willing to look inside at the hurt and the pain and not run away.
I am willing to learn my lessons and do the work necessary to move forward.
I am willing to apologize and own up to my mistakes.
I am willing to take chances and be adventurous.
I am willing to be courageous.
I am willing to be passionate.
I am willing to take the path less traveled.
I am willing to move beyond the pain of the five-year old girl in my head.
I am willing to be extraordinary.
And I am surrounded by so many extraordinary people.
How are you extraordinary?
Head down to the comments and acknowledge yourself for the extraordinary person YOU are!!
