It occurred to me today that I haven’t done a financial update since the beginning of February – and there’s good stuff to report, so let’s get caught up!
When last we talked finances, I was expecting February to be a lean month. I knew that I’d make enough to cover my expenses, but I wasn’t sure how much I’d be able to devote to extra credit card payments. It turns out that I was able to do $500! That was much better than I’d expected.
March was even better with a $759 payment.
I’ve got my fingers crossed that I’ll get an IRS refund this year and be able to put that toward debt in April. I also asked for a raise at work and found out that I’ll get one in May.
I’ve started doing freelance writing for St. Johnsbury Academy which is currently bringing in roughly $600 a month. (That SJA link goes directly to the piece I wrote for them about the Melissa Jenkins memorial – slight detour here – I was able to attend the memorial and write about it for both the Academy and the newspaper. It was emotionally tough, but I’m really proud of the results.)
Starting this month, I’m scheduled to start working with a local woman on a long-term editing project that I’m hoping will be another $600 (or more!) each month.
I also just sold my first paid placement on The Miracle Journal for $200. Things are definitely picking up steam!
And here’s the best, most exciting part: I needed to get a new set of tires for my car, plus some overdue maintenance. Because I’ve been keeping such a scrupulous budget for the last five months, I knew that I had enough money in my account to cover it.
When the mechanic gave me the bill for $700, I was able to pull out my checkbook and write a check (I didn’t even have to put it on a credit card!) without a second thought. I didn’t stress about how much it would cost. I just did it. It was a truly MIRACULOUS moment. I didn’t know it could feel that GOOD to get work done on my car!!!!
I finally, finally, FINALLY feel like I’m in control of my money, rather than it being in control of me. And it’s only going to get better from here!
In other news – today the fourth “Juicy Tips For Miraculous Living” came out, and I’m really excited about this one. It’s titled “Model Yourself” and if you’re not on the mailing list yet, you can view it here. While you’re there, don’t forget to sign up so you’ll never miss a Juicy Tip!
