This weekend my predecessor at the newspaper came back to the area for a wedding. Today she sent a really touching story about loyalty, commitment and focus. She suggested that it might be good for The Journal.
I look up to Gail and respect her so much; I’m really honored to highlight her story and picture:
The bride’s family is from Connecticut and she met met a local lad right after her family bought a house on Morgan Lake. It’s a second marriage for both of them; the ceremony was held at the West Glover Church in Vermont.
Her dad, our friend Al, has been in and out of the hospital the past six months for leukemia-related conditions. He was unexpectedly hospitalized in Boston in the days prior to Kelley’s wedding. He wasn’t expected to attend the wedding, of course.
Saturday morning he decided, independently, to unhook himself from his meds and walked out of the hospital, rented a car and drove from Boston to northern Vermont without telling anyone until he was en route. Weak, vision-impaired and very sick, he made it barely in time for the ceremony. When the bride and her Dad came in, the crowd of 100 people stood up and cheered, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house!
