Smiling again

After some of the hardest months I can remember since starting at the newspaper, I have finally gotten to the Promised Land – vacation.  Oh yes, dear Miracle Watchers, I am in one of my favorite places in the world – the coast of Maine.

After only a few hours, I can already feel myself starting to smile again.  The power of the ocean to calm and restore me is always astonishing.  I’m so grateful to have five full days to rest, relax, and work on the Miracle Journal book!

I went out for a short walk late this afternoon and met an adorable couple named Hillary and Dan.  Hillary had a blanket wrapped around her mid-section, shielding a tiny little baby from the wind.  I asked how old the baby is and they told me seven weeks.  They’re four hours from home.

“You’re so brave!” I said.

“Well, we had to do it sometime, so we figured why not now?” responded Dan.

Good point.

Which got me thinking ——

Last week I went to a get-together hosted by my favorite little girl in the world, Wenonah, and her new baby sister, Montana.  (Okay, okay – they didn’t ACTUALLY host the party, but Wenonah is so spunky that she could have hosted it all by herself!)

I eavesdropped as two mothers of small children discussed the travails of leaving the house for more than five or ten minutes with a new baby.  But at some point, they agreed, it would get easier.

As I stood and talked with Hillary and Dan tonight, with seven-week-old Sunny strapped to Mom’s chest four hours away from home, I thought back to that conversation and realized yet again – everyone has their own timetable.  Everyone gets to do it at exactly their own pace.

And by “it” I mean anything.

Which brings me to me – Sometimes I look around at my friends in the personal development field whose careers have skyrocketed in the past three years.  I worry that I’m not working hard enough or that I’m not charismatic enough to make that happen for myself.  But the truth is that I’m on my own timetable.

I’ve been quietly nurturing this little Miracle Journal along for 21 months now.  I’ve talked about it with anyone who will listen, I’ve been on national radio programs, I’m teaching classes.  But in terms of what is possible, so far they’ve all been five or ten minute trips from home.

I feel my energy gathering to make the four hour journey – or the eight hour journey – or the round-the-world journey.  What does that mean?  I don’t know exactly yet.  But something is getting ready to happen and I’m excited to find out what it is!

In the meantime, below is a short video I made while I was out walking today.

Also, I’ll be the “Featured Luminary” on Thursday at InspireMeToday.com, so please check that out (don’t worry, I’ll remind you again!)

And finally, if you’d like to have a constant reminder to look for the miracles in your life, I’ve put together a shop at zazzle.com with Miracle Journal products (http://www.zazzle.com/themiraclejournal).  Please check it out, get some gear, and share it with your friends!

Welcome Cheryl! I’m so glad that you found our Miracle community thanks to Dan and Hilary (I see that I must have spelled her name incorrectly – my apologies, Hilary!) I agree that they are quite wonderful and you are lucky to have them in your family.
      Wishing you many miracles,
      Leah
